Analysis of Kool A.D's style

In his article “How To Pay For a Baby” Kool A.D. uses the literary technique of juxtaposition, in order to establish a comedic value in the text for comedic readers. Informal language is used throughout the text to create juxtaposition. This can be seen in one of the many informal quotes of the text “That means you need to get your yaper up. Yaper, also known as feddy, bread, guap, clams, smackerinos, legal tender, coinage, etc., is crucial to child rearing.” The use of informal words like yaper, smakerinos, and guap to name a few, is used to comment on the predominantly formal topic of parent advice. The general reader will see these two elements of; Informal language and the generally formal topic of parenting advice. As such this juxtaposition of two contrasting elements creates a comedic value to the text, showing Kool A.D’s purpose of writing this article for comedic purposes. Kool A.D uses random sophisticated statements of society to juxtapose his general statements. As seen in this excerpt of the text “keep a tiny human being alive until it's forced to be enslaved by capitalism like the rest of us.” Up until this point in the text the reader is presented with statements that are clearly not critical or have intelligent backing, though this statement along with others shows a sophisticated opinion on society. Completely contrasting to the other statements and opinions used by Kool A.D throughout majority of the text. As a result, this creates comedic value for the reader, as the juxtaposition is completely random and seems unlikely to come up in a text like his. Kool A.D. successfully uses juxtaposition throughout the text to create comedic value for the reader, this is done by using informal language and a contrast of sophisticate opinions. Overall this comedic value is to show and let the readers relate to the struggles of parenthood.
