Goal Setting

One of my primary goals I wish to accomplish through the DP course, is to gain the ability to be comfortable under pressure during a timed writing exam. I set this goal as I still do above average on timed written exams, but in scenarios where I’m not pressured (Class practice), I produce significantly better work than being under pressure even within the same time frame. Additionally, I wish to strive towards reintroducing books to myself as an area of enjoyment, as I rarely read books that aren’t school related. I believe that by fulfilling this goal and making reading into an enjoyable habit, I will have a more enjoyable and knowledgeable life ahead on me.

In my personal life something that I was to try new this year is no sugar, gluten, and dairy diet. This being the case for mainly medical reasons as well as, weight loss, physical performance, appearance and a healthier lifestyle. Currently I am three weeks into this diet plan and have seen significant changes in my body overall internally and externally. I will try to continue this for as long as I can after 4-5 months taking a break I see it being appropriate.

By having the IB having mock exams, I believe that I can successfully fulfill my goal of being comfortable under pressure during a writing exam. Simply this practice will heighten and allow me to finally feel comfortable performing an exam under pressure. Additionally, it is practically guaranteed that I will be receiving practice in class for help on this goal. For my second goal, this can be accomplished during the course as we will be learning to both appreciate different types of texts and will be reading books for the course. Most likely this will help boost my interest and motivation to begin reading in my own time for enjoyment.

  1. I think it's good that you have clear goals and I really like the one about reintroducing books as this is something I have been thinking about doing myself. From my own experiences I also know that setting up routines like this will help you with other routines, for example your diet. Does the diet have something to do with you football career? Do you think that your goal about performing during pressure can apply outside school and will help you not only when writing exams?

  2. This was an informative post. One of the hardest parts of being an English teacher is dissecting books in a way that purges them of any pleasure. I hope you are able to enjoy some of the texts that we study this year, and explore some new authors as well. Oh yeah, and improve your confidence with exam writing!
